Andrew Karaptis and Wells Tipley began ICON Omnimedia, Corp. in the summer
of 2003. Armed with some credit cards, a few computers, and a spare room at
Wells' parents house, the pair took the plunge into self- employment and
incorporated ICON in July.
Andrew had been working as a computer programmer and designing websites since graduating Boston University in 2001. Wells had been working for various companies in the CD and DVD replication field for close to 10 years. Both had suspected that left to their own devices, they'd be able to excel and do a better job.
Using both professional knowledge, and experience gained from years of playing in bands, booking shows, and putting out their own CDs and records, the duo dug in and quickly created a small base of very satisfied and loyal customers.
In the years that ensued, Icon grew exponentially based on the philosophy of offering large indie-label pricing to smaller indie-labels and bands. The company added employees to round out its front office staff, and relocated a number of times to accommodate its growth and success, eventually settling in 2008 at our state of the art Bohemia, NY facility, which offers replication, offset printing, die-cutting and packaging all in house.
In addition to the expanded facilities, Icon has expanded its services over the years to offer top-notch short-run disc duplication, t-shirts, and posters, while also bringing you Dropcards, digital distribution and MySpace customization, under its ICON Next brand.
ICON constantly strives to meet the changing needs of the digital media industry by offering new services and products whenever possible to meet the evolving needs of our customers. If it’s not on our site, just name it… chances are we can do it!
