What is IRMA?
IRMA is the International Recording Media Association. IRMA is a worldwide trade association that established the anti-piracy certification and compliance program to which nearly all CD and DVD replicators adhere. Basically, IRMA set up a system to help replicators and content owners prevent piracy. ICON's required Replication Rights Form is part of the IRMA requirements. You can check IRMA out online at www.recordingmedia.com.

I don't like delays, what are some things I should remember when filling this form out?
The most common mistake when filling the form out is conflicting ownership information. The organization and name that signs at the bottom of page 1, must be the organization or name that is listed as the IPR holder on page 2. If this is not the case, a Grant of Rights Letter is required.

What if I am not the Intellectual Property Rights owner?
If you are not the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) owner, a letter from the IPR owner is required. This letter should demonstrate that you indeed have the right to press the material. This letter is commonly referred to as a Grant of Rights Letter. A sample Grant of Rights letter is available on our website at www.builtbyicon.com.

I am putting out a compilation. Exactly what kind of paperwork do I need to make sure my order doesn't get delayed?
If you are putting out a compilation, it is likely that you do not own the Intellectual Property Rights to each song. Ownership likely belongs to the band or record label that you contacted for permission to use the track. In these cases a Grant of Rights letter, or contract needs to be supplied.

What about short samples from movies or television?
Any samples from movie or television require permission from the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) owner. A Grant of Rights letter, or contract is required.

What about cover songs?
Cover songs written by other artists - but performed by you - are your intellectual property, and do not require additional paperwork. However, cover songs should be listed as such on page 2 of the Replication Rights Form. Also, on page 1, the box should be checked that indicates that you are actively pursuing the publishing rights.
